The Talented and Gifted (TAG) Program is designed to offer academic opportunities and educational services to students in grades These students, because of their academic aptitude, require additional academic services beyond which is offered in the regular classroom and curriculum. This handbook offers information and strategies that parents can use to nurture their child’s learning and emotional well-being at home, in school, and in the community. The department collaborated with the Alberta Associations for Bright Children in the development of this handbook for parents of children who are gifted and talented. This book is designed to give counselors, classroom teachers, gifted education specialists, and parents an understanding of the academic and social-personal needs of gifted and talented students, awareness of ways that they themselves may help these children, and an introduction to the available guidance strategies and materials.
